A Brief Outline of our Courses

All courses are broken into 10-week sessions to reduce the fees payable at one time.

養身班 TAI CHI FOR HEALTH (BASIC LEVEL)

These classes are suitable for complete beginners and will include a brief introduction to the Shen Long school of Traditional Tai Chi and how it may differ from other schools. Emphasis will be on correct posture, breathing, balance and, most importantly, relaxation. Students will learn basic Tai Chi exercises and study the first section of the Tai Chi 37 Forms (Forms 1-13). They will also learn some special Zuo style Tai Chi exercises to develop internal energy that is an essential part of Traditional Tai Chi.

TAI CHI FOR HEALTH (1): FOUNDATIONS
Duration: 10 weeks
Prerequisites: none

TAI CHI FOR HEALTH (2): TRADITIONAL TAI CHI 37 FORMS (Part 1)
Duration: 20 weeks (two 10-week sessions)
Prerequisites: completed FOUNDATIONS

進階太極拳 ADVANCED TAI CHI FORMS (BASIC LEVEL)

These classes are for students who have completed the Tai Chi for Health course and will begin the forms of the second section (Forms 14-37), which progressively increase in difficulty. Additional exercises will be learnt and there will be more emphasis on movement and internal energy development and circulation.

Duration: 40 weeks (four 10-week sessions)
Prerequisites: completed TRADITIONAL TAI CHI 37 FORMS (Part 1); passed 1st grading

精修班 DEVELOPING TAI CHI SKILLS (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL)

These classes are for students who have completed the Traditional Tai Chi 37 Forms. Students will develop the forms to a higher level with continued form correction and standing exercises to improve posture and endurance. In the second part, students will be introduced to basic sensitivity training, pushing hands and the concept of Fa Jin and uprooting. They will learn basic exercises to prepare them for training in pairs. This will be followed by basic Pushing Hands training as a solo exercise and with a partner.

Developing Tai Chi Skills (1): TAI CHI FORM CORRECTION
Duration: 40 weeks (four 10-week sessions)
Prerequisites: Completed ADVANCED TAI CHI FORMS, passed 2nd Grading

Developing Tai Chi Skills (2): PUSH HANDS
Duration: 40 weeks (four 10-week sessions)
Prerequisites: Completed TAI CHI FORM CORRECTION, passed 3rd Grading

高級太極班 ADVANCED TAI CHI SKILLS (ADVANCED LEVEL)

At this stage, students progressing onwards may choose which modules to study. They may also be selected to assist with instruction of students of other levels.

Duration: 40 weeks per Module (four 10-week sessions)
Prerequisites: Completed DEVELOPING TAI CHI SKILLS, passed 4th Grading.
